The Dooars — literally 'the doors' to Bhutan and the Eastern Himalayas — is a belt of floodplain forest, tea estate, and grassland spread across the foothills of North Bengal. Wild elephant herds, one-horned rhinos, gaur, and leopards roam the protected forests of Gorumara, Jaldapara, and Chapramari, while the Teesta, Murti, and Jaldhaka rivers braid through emerald tea country. Just a short drive from Siliguri, the Dooars is the most accessible wilderness in the region and the perfect first stop on any North East journey.
A glimpse of the landscapes you'll travel through.
No special permit is needed to travel in the Dooars region. Forest entry permits for the safaris in Gorumara and Jaldapara are arranged at the park gates — our package books your safari slots in advance, as they sell out in peak season.
October to April is ideal, with comfortable weather and active wildlife. The forests and safaris close during the monsoon breeding season — typically mid-June to mid-September — when the parks are shut to visitors.
The Dooars begins just 70–80 km from Siliguri and Bagdogra Airport (IXB), a 2.5–3 hour drive. New Mal Junction and New Jalpaiguri (NJP) are the nearest railheads. Our tours include all transfers from Siliguri.
